Intern – Finance Cash Operations, Schroders Luxembourg

We are looking for an intern who will complete an internship with us for a minimum of 6months.
This student must be enrolled in university for the duration of the internship and must provide an internship agreement from their university.

Team Overview

The Finance department in Schroders Luxembourg is a global service centre for Schroder funds data, revenue and reporting and a regional service centre for financial control, accounts payable and tax support. It has two main areas:

(1)        Finance Operations: consolidating and reporting Group AUM & sales data from funds across 23 domiciles, calculating revenue and paying rebates across funds globally and generating the resulting accounting entries and providing the relevant analytical support to many Schroder Group entities globally.

(2)        Financial Control - Continental Europe: Preparing the monthly and annual accounts for Schroder Group entities in Continental Europe, delivering accounts payable and expense management services to a variety of businesses in the region, preparing tax and VAT returns in liaison with advisors and providing senior management support via relevant reporting, ad-hoc analysis etc.

The Finance Cash Operations Intern position will report to the Team Leader of Finance Cash Operations (“FCO”) within Finance Operations.

FCO is a broad team sitting across Luxembourg and London. FCO (Luxembourg) provides payment services for distributor rebates, as well as corporate and fund expenses. In its capacity as a payment services centre, FCO deals with complexity of payments and increasing volumes across multiple banking counterparties in different payment currencies and in several countries.

 

Overview of role

  • Assisting with payment instructions coming in from various business areas by turning them into payment batches in scope for internal authorisation and thereafter release;

  • Monitoring of bank account balances for liquidity forecasting purposes in multiple currencies and counterparties;

  • Monitoring against banking counterparty limits exposure relating to deposits and foreign exchange;

  • Working across functions with finance, legal, compliance, etc. and various business owners on a variety of initiatives;

  • Good understanding of the characteristics of the different bank accounts operated by the team (e.g. multicurrency, negative interest floors, etc.);

  • Providing informed statistics and KPIs reflecting volumes, complexity and effort in the area of cash operations;

  • Providing analysis and informed commentary to other Finance teams as and when required;

  • Issuing a variety of control reports;

  • Assisting with year-end reviews and audit.


Essential Skills

  • University degree or professional qualifications in Economics, Accounting or Finance;

  • Strong English, with at least one additional European language (e.g. French, German, etc.);

  • Computer literate; MS Excel at an intermediary level.

Desirable Skills

  • Prior working experience would be considered as an asset;

  • Analytical and highly numerate, able to grasp data relationships and turn them into business intelligence information;

  • Collaborative, team player, and proactive;

  • Self-starter, and fast learner who can implement system and process changes;

  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and emotionally resilient;

  • Service orientated with strong communication skills;

  • Excellent time and self-management skills, ability to prioritize and multitask;

  • Highly organised with the ability to work independently.
